Archduke John of Austria (German: Erzherzog Johann von Österreich, 1782 - 1859), a member of the House of Habsburg-Lorraine - Austrian field marshal and imperial regent (Reichsverweser) of the short-lived German Empire during the Revolutions of 1848. Wilhelm had been colonel of the K.k. Army and owner of Infantry Regiment No. 12. He took part in the Italian wars of 1848 and 1849 as a volunteer on the side of the Austrian Empire. In the spring of 1854 he barely survived a cholera illness. In 1853 he was appointed field marshal lieutenant and from 1857 to 1860, as chief of the army high command, he was de facto war minister of the Austrian Empire. Wilhelm was the builder of one of the first palaces built on the newly laid out Vienna Ringstrasse, the Palais Archduke Wilhelm. Theophil Hansen built it on behalf of the Archduke 1864–1868 opposite the city park. In 1870 Wilhelm sold the palace to the Teutonic Order, but continued to live in it as Grand Master himself. Since then, the building has also been known as the Deutschmeister-Palais. Illustration from 19th century.
Archduke Karl Ludwig Josef Maria of Austria (1833 - 1896) - the younger brother of both Franz Joseph I of Austria and Maximilian I of Mexico, and the father of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria (1863–1914), whose assassination ignited World War I. His grandson was the last emperor of Austria, Charles I. Etching, published in 1891.
Archduke Heinrich Anton of Austria and his wife Leopoldine and daughter Marie Rainiera. Heinrich Anton had a military career and became Feldmarschallleutnant and commander of a division in Graz and later Brünn. Archduke Charles Louis John Joseph Laurentius of Austria, Duke of Teschen (German: Erzherzog Karl Ludwig Johann Joseph Lorenz von Österreich, Herzog von Teschen; 1771 - 1847) - Austrian field-marshal and the 54th Grand Master of the Teutonic Order. The troops he commanded added Napoleon at the Battle of Aspern on March 21/22. May 1809 the first defeat on the battlefield. He was considered one of Napoleon's more formidable opponents.
