Hafrsfjord, Norway, October 05 - The three swords in the rock (Sverd i fjell) is a memorial monument located in Hafrsfjord Madla, south of the city of Stavanger, in the southern region of Norway. The three swords, built in the Viking style, recall the historic battle of Hafrsfjord which took place in 872, when King Harald Hårfagre defeated two rivals and united all of Norway in a single kingdom. The monument, 10 meters high, is the work of the sculptor Fritz Røed and was inaugurated in 1983 by King Olav V of Norway. The monument is visited every year by thousands of tourists and Norwegians.
