Prescott, Arizona, USA - July 27, 2013: A section of the memorial for 19 fallen firemen hotshots showing a shovel (inscribed Yarnell 19), tee shirts, caps, fireman helmet, written messages from other fire departments around the USA and flags. The fallen 19 smokerjumpers - called Hotshots died in the wildfire surrounding Yarnell, Arizona on June 30, 2013. The Hotshots were part of an elite attachment of smokejumping firefighters from Prescott who were attempting to dig trench perimeters to control fire spread. A severe wind shift caused the direction of the Yarnell fire to reverse back on the men, engulfing and overcoming them after they had taken cover under protective blankets. This memorial covers the fence surrounding their home fire station in Prescott. Thousands have visited and left sobering remembrances.
